How are Luxury Engagement Rings and Wedding Bands Made?

Four Prong Oval Center Diamond Engagement Ring - A.JAFFE

Contrary to popular belief, luxury engagement rings are not mass-produced at factories. The word luxury is only ever associated with items that are created with painstaking detail, and pass through multiple steps until the final product is finished. At every stage, there is a quality check to ensure that only the best possible product is produced.

Let us look at how A.JAFFE makes luxury engagement rings –

Step 1 – Design

Creating something new begins with an idea or a design. Therefore, the first step is to design the ring. The design can be sketched by hand or using a software and computer application. The shape, stone, and metal used in the ring are determined at this step. Once the design of the ring is finalized, the next step is casting.

Step 2 – Wax Casting

A wax casting also referred to as the "lost wax casting process" is by far the most popular way to make a ring today. In this centuries old process, jewelers use wax to create an exact model of the ring. Then the wax carving is suspended in a metal flask filled with plaster or a plaster-like material, and is then left to harden. After the plaster hardens, the flask containing the wax carving is heated in an oven. The wax essentially "evaporates" away and all you have left is the hollowed out design.

Molten precious metal is then poured into the mold. The metal is left to cool, and when it solidifies, the plaster is slowly removed until only the metal is left. The ring can now be polished and decorated according to the original design.

Step 3 – Inspection

After casting is complete, the ring is carefully inspected with a keen eye. Adjustments are made to clean up the finish of the metal. Any texture that was part of the original design is completed at this point. Once the ring looks good to go, it is time to start polishing it.

Step 4 – Polishing

The ring is polished multiple times in various stages to achieve the maximum possible brilliance from the metal. Wedding bands for men would probably be complete at this point, provided they did not have any stones in the original design.

Step 5 – Stone Setting

Precious gemstones that were part of the original design are then set on the ring. Depending on the style of the setting, prongs or claws are individually created to hold each gemstone in place. In a bezel setting or other types of settings that do not need claws or prongs, other methods are used to hold the gem in place.

Step 6 – Final inspection

At last, the ring is inspected again, paying careful attention to every minute detail to ensure that everything is perfect. At this time, any discrepancies are corrected as they are found. The ring may also need to be polished again to ensure that it looks perfect to the eyes of the jeweler.

Step 7 – The Big Reveal

Once the jeweler believes that the ring is ready, he prepares to show it to the customer. When the ring is revealed, the expression on the customer's face is what really determines whether the entire process has been worth it or not. Watching the customer's face light up on seeing the ring is the best indicator of a job well done for our master craftsmen at A.JAFFE.

Why Choose A.JAFFE for Your Luxury Jewelry Needs?

It takes a total of 80 hours to create one perfect A.JAFFE ring.

All A.JAFFE gold rings are completely free of nickel. Our 18K gold is alloyed with 40% more palladium than other jewelers. This ensures that the bright white setting does not fade for decades. Every ring is specially burnished to ensure that each ring is substantial, dense, and not porous.

The prongs holding the gemstones in place are all handmade by expert jewelers to ensure that they are strong enough to keep your gemstones secure. Even the smaller prongs in the pave settings are created one by one to ensure that the finish of the ring is smooth and that it will not tangle in your clothes, scarves, and hair.

Every diamond we use is selected by a trained eye to ensure that they have the perfect balance of color and sparkle. Craftsmen follow six polishing stages right down to the last T to make sure that maximum brilliance is achieved with every ring. Each A.JAFFE ring is the perfect marriage of art, technology and excellence.
